What is Content Marketing?
Dear fellow Entrepreneur,
Do you want to attract more traffic, raise your conversion rates, and grow your profits through online marketing? If this is your goal, I’d like to show you the number one reason businesses are either struggling or failing in the online marketing. It’s because they don’t have an effective content marketing strategy.
They do what I call random acts of marketing.
They might have a Facebook page over here, a YouTube channel over here, a blog over there, article marketing over there, PPC marketing, SEO, and they’re trying things out hoping something will bring in sales. Most of them are struggling just to keep their income going, especially during times of the year when business is slow.
The only way to escape this trap and to build and grow a profitable business is through deliberate creation of a content marketing strategy.
Success Can Only Happen On Purpose
A good content marketing strategy starts with the understanding that the way people make buying decisions it is changing. This is why a lot of companies are being left behind. Advertising will never come back the way it was. Seth Godin is one of the world’s leading marketing experts, and he said that invitational marketing is the only marketing left. And I’m going to show you exactly why that is and what you can do about it in just a moment.
But the first thing to understand is that the way people make buying decisions is changing. If you want to attract more qualified traffic, raise your conversion rates, and grow your company profits and equity, you need to change the way you’re marketing so that you accommodate the modern consumer.
The “Ad Resistant” Modern Consumer
Today’s consumers are:
#1: Well-informed.
#2: Heavily solicited.
#3: Heavily skeptical
Now just think about the challenges this creates for you as a marketer. You’ve got well-informed consumers, they’re heavily solicited and they’re very skeptical. This means you have to provide them with information that will set your brand apart and break down the fear barriers and walls of skepticism.
This is important for two reasons. Number one, so that you can get new business and new sales. But number two, because there are two types of consumers.
Type #1: Price-focused consumers
Those are people who buy based on price alone. If you don’t have a strong content marketing strategy, the only type of consumer you can attract is a price-focused consumer. Price-focused consumers have a few things in common.
Number one, they are the least loyal because they’re more likely to leave you because someone else offers a better price.
Number two, because they’re price focused they’re more likely to cancel your product or service because they don’t understand the long-term impact.
Number three, because they’re price focused you have to lower your profit margins to earn their business.
And as you know, low profit margins makes it almost impossible to build and to grow a thriving business. But the second type of consumer has a value focused consumer. This is someone who buys not based on price, but based on how much value they’re going to get out of your product or service.
Type #2: Value-focused consumers
Value focused consumers are more loyal because as long as you provide them with value, they will stick with you even if a cheaper solution comes along.
Number two, they’re usually better educated about the long-term impact of your product or service so they’re more likely to stick with you.
Number three, if you’re in the business to business niche, value focused buyers will have more money to spend because they’re investing value into their business.
Which Type of Customer Do You Want to Attract?
If you’re OK with attracting price focused customers, this message is probably not for you. But if you want to attract value focused customers, you’re going to need a carefully orchestrated content marketing strategy because value focused consumers make buying decisions based on information gathering.
So what is content marketing? And more important, how can it help you increase your profits, build equity, and grow your company?
